The Photo Project: Donating Cameras To A Grade 5/6 Toronto Class.

Posted by Thank You Toronto on

This year we found out a grade 5/6 class at Downtown Alternative School were big fans of our Instagram Feed [@ThankYouToronto] thanks to their teacher Mr. Donovan Fernandes.

Since they were such big fans, we decided to buy each student in the class a disposable camera. We gave them a mission to go out with their family, explore, and capture the beauty of Toronto just like they saw on our Instagram feed.

After a couple weeks, we got all the disposable camera's back and had the photos developed for the students. Taking a peak at the first package, the Thank You Toronto team was amazed to see how engaged the students were in the campaign. From photos of police to the amazing landscapes of Toronto, every student took full advantage of the camera we provided them. With all the photos returned, the students were required as a creative assignment to discuss and compare their photos through venn diagrams, rough copy, and good copy essay reports.

As we approached the end of the project, we thought it would be a great idea to dig deeper with the kids on the Thank You Toronto movement. We framed each of their favourite photos and they will be put up for a silent auction at the next school Open House. The proceeds will go to the Sick Kids Foundation as chosen by the students.
